A Tribute to Allan Drain (1956 - 2014)
It is with great sadness that we share the news that Mr Allan Drain has died. Mr Drain had been bravely battling against cancer for 18 months and had recently retired from Gracemount. He was a member of staff for over 30 years starting out as a teacher of Mathematics moving on to teach Computer Studies before becoming a Principal Teacher and ultimately our Curricular Leader for Technologies.

He was a very dedicated and inspirational teacher and was well liked and respected by staff and pupils. He was known for his “pages” by some pupils and was regarded as a legend by many. Year after year he pushed our youngsters to achieve fantastic results and has inspired many of our youngsters to pursue careers in IT.

Allan was a dedicated teacher who was committed to doing his best for pupils at Gracemount High School both in and out of the classroom. As a keen sportsman he led various extra curricular activities such as ski trips abroad and outdoor education trips within the UK. They are all fondly remembered by many. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Jen, children Caitlin and Cammy and his wider family at this very sad time.

Our pupil Charities Committee will be planning an event at a later date to celebrate Mr Drain’s school life and to raise funds for the Maggie Centre who have supported his family. More details to follow.

The school is working hard to support staff and pupils at this difficult time. Psychological services have a number of leaflets available on our website which parents may find useful to support their youngster with bereavement. There is also one aimed at pupils. They can be found
